I have been working in the helping professions for almost 40 years - firstly as a social worker, then as a counsellor, group facilitator and psychotherapist.
I specialise in working with anger and domestic violence. For the past 30 years I have faciliated men's Living Without Violence programmes. This is work I love because I see the positive benefits of change for the men and their families.
I am fascinated by people’s stories. This facination, and my own life experience, led me to write six books:
Men Making Changes: Breaking the cycle of anger and abuse in family relationships
Invisible Wounds: A Guide for Women in Abusive Relationships
Invisible Wounds Workbook: Self-relection for Women in Abusive Relationships
Challenged by Childhood: Healing the Hidden Hurts of a Difficult Childhood
Living Life Out Loud: 22 Inspiring New Zealand Women Share their Wisdom
Power Games: Confronting Others’ Hurtful Behaviour and Transforming Our Own
All of these books are based on the insightful, poignant, wise words for the people I interviewed. I believe the people who have lived through and overcome adversity are the true ‘experts’. We have much to offer one another.
